Here are some specific details about my 1970's Black Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar:
- Serial Number: 491498 stamped into the wood on back of headstock. This serial number dates it to 1974-1976. Most probably was made in 1976 and was purchased in January 1977.
- Factory Second, with a number "2" stamped into the wood on back of headstock.
- There is a long finish crack directly under the low E string that runs between the two pickup bezels, parallel with the low E string.
- There’s a small hole drilled in the top between the two volume controls where I added a coil tap switch in the late 1970’s. You can see the switch in the second photo below.
- Both pickups were changed: Neck pickup was changed to a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the late 1970's and the bridge pickup was changed to a DiMarzio X2N style custom pickup with zebra bobbins around 1982-83.
- Refret was done in the early 1980’s using large fret wire.
- Pickguard, pickup bezels and pickup selector ring were spray painted white in the late 1970’s.
- Gold speed knobs were added in the late 1970’s.
- Gold metal input jack plate was added in the late 1970’s.
- Original Gibson case with purple velvet lining.
